Musica Dell'Era Tecnologica is one of Piero Umiliani’s most adventurous electronic recordings: a strange, imaginative journey through mechanised rhythms, synthetic melodies and futuristic sound effects. Originally released by Liuto Records in 1972, the album was created under the name Piero Umiliani Ed I Suoi Oscillatori and recorded at the composer’s celebrated Sound Work-Shop studio in Rome.

Rather than presenting conventional songs, Umiliani constructs a series of concise musical scenes inspired by consumerism, automation, computers, assembly lines and the increasingly technological character of modern life. Primitive electronic pulses, distorted keyboard tones and playful machine-like patterns are combined with elements of jazz, blues and experimental library music.

Tracks such as “Marcia Dei Robots” and “Danza Dei Rocchetti” possess a cartoon-like mechanical energy, while “Requiem Per Un Autotreno” and “Finalissimo Atomico” explore darker and more abstract territory. “Blues Machine” applies electronic textures to a familiar blues framework, and the wonderfully titled “Computer Nevrotico” suggests a nervous machine gradually losing control.

The album’s deliberately artificial sound world now feels both unmistakably rooted in the early synthesizer era and remarkably prophetic. Its mixture of humour, anxiety and experimentation makes it an essential recording for admirers of vintage electronics, Italian library music, science-fiction soundtracks and unconventional avant-garde composition.

This Dagored edition was produced exclusively for Record Store Day 2018 and marked the first reissue of this highly sought-after album. It is pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl and strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide.
