Released in April 1976, Still Life is widely regarded as one of Van der Graaf Generator’s strongest and most enduring albums. It was the band’s second release after their 1972–1975 hiatus, following their powerful return with Godbluff.
The reunited line-up of Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton, David Jackson and Guy Evans had returned to Rockfield Studios in 1975, producing a highly creative run of material. Two tracks from those sessions, Pilgrims and La Rossa, were held over from the Godbluff period and later became central pieces on Still Life.
With dramatic performances, complex arrangements and Peter Hammill’s intense lyrical vision, the album includes essential Van der Graaf Generator works such as Pilgrims, La Rossa, My Room (Waiting for Wonderland) and Childlike Faith in Childhood’s End. This new vinyl edition has been remastered from the original master tapes, cut at Abbey Road Studios, and fully restores the original LP artwork.
