Although best known for his work with the Runaways, scratch the surface and you will find that Kim Fowley was actually one of the true unsung geniuses behind much of the Los Angeles music scene of the '50s, '60s and '70s...the original Mayor Of The Sunset Strip! The Day The Earth Stood Still was recorded in 1970, while Fowley was living in Helsinki, producing and songwriting for some local bands (including the Finnish Wigwam, and an obscure Swedish band called Scorpion [not Scorpions of "Rock You Like A Hurricane" fame], probably Fowley's backing band on this LP). For this album—a Swedish-only release for the MNW label—Fowley, "the expat", delivers his own warped 'State Of The Nation' on songs like "The Frail Ocean" (Fowley, the environmentalist?) and "I Was A Communist For The FBI"...as usual, the lucid ravings of a madman.
