Released in 1967, this was the debut album from American singer P.P. Arnold, featuring the hit singles “The First Cut Is The Deepest” and “If You Think You’re Groovy” (with the Small Faces), as well as the Northern Soul collector’s favourite “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.”
Arnold began her professional career in 1965 as an Ikette with the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. While touring in London in 1966, she made the bold decision to strike out on her own, signing to record for the Rolling Stones’ manager Andrew Loog Oldham, with Mick Jagger producing much of this LP.
Cat Stevens, who wrote “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” has acknowledged that Arnold’s rendition stands as the definitive, all-time classic recording of the song.
Her second Immediate Records album has also been reissued by Charly Records.
