Julian’s Treatment emerged in late 1960s London, at the crossroads of the fading psychedelic era and the dawn of progressive rock. The group was led by Julian Jay Savarin—of French and Mayan heritage—who had left his native Dominica in the early ’60s to study law in the UK. His deep interest in space and aviation led him to enlist in the R.A.F. before becoming absorbed in the vibrant underground music scene of the capital.
Their cosmically-charged debut—a double concept album titled A Time Before This—was released in 1970 and has since earned cult status among enthusiasts of the era. As Julian shifted focus to his burgeoning career as a science fiction author, the band retreated from the stage and evolved into a studio project. This new phase brought fresh members into the fold, including the enigmatic former Catapilla vocalist known as Lady Jo Meek. A second album, intended as a companion to Julian’s first novel Waiters on the Dance, was recorded and released in early 1973, coinciding with the book’s publication in 1972.
Julian went on to build an impressive literary legacy, with numerous acclaimed books to his name—but musically, he appeared to vanish. Unknown to most, however, a follow-up album to Waiters on the Dance was recorded in 1975 but never released... until now.
Beyond the Outer Mirr is, without doubt, a long-lost gem from the golden age of progressive rock. Featuring a breathtaking performance by Lady Jo Meek, this rediscovered recording is sure to leave listeners awestruck.
