Dopethrone is Electric Wizard at their most overwhelming: slow, distorted, hostile and completely immersed in a world of horror imagery, feedback and ritualistic heaviness. The album does not simply play doom metal at a low speed; it turns repetition, fuzz and volume into a kind of oppressive atmosphere, where the riffs seem to drag the listener deeper with every passing minute.

Originally released in 2000, the record became one of the defining albums of modern doom and stoner metal. Tracks such as Vinum Sabbathi, Funeralopolis, We Hate You and the massive title track show the band reducing heavy rock to its most toxic and hypnotic form, while the extended Mind Transferral adds a final, hallucinatory descent.
