Expectations (1972) is an essential Free Jazz album by the pianist, saxophonist, and composer Keith Jarrett. The album shows that Keith Jarrett was an ambitious, multi-talented threat to be reckoned with.
Jarrett again turns his early eclecticism loose – from Gospel-tinged Soul-Jazz to atonal Avant-Garde –yet this time he does it with an exuberance and expansiveness that puts his previous solo work in the shade.
"Common Mama", "Take Me Back", and "Nomads" are the most invigorating tracks, containing Latin, Jazz and Electric Jazz-Rock influences.
In addition to Jarrett, musicians on the recording include Dewey Redman (tenor saxophone), Charlie Haden (bass), Paul Motian (drums), Sam Brown (guitar), and Airto Moreira (percussion). It was produced by George Avakian.
