With Lionel Hampton, Gerry Mulligan, Dannie Richmond, Woody Shaw. This 1977 session, produced and coordinated by the late vibraphonist Lionel Hampton (who also plays on the album) is a declaration of the state of jazz in the late '70s by one of its masterminds, and is a statement of Hampton's artistic "rebirth." The tracks are varied and embrace the whole compositive universe of Mingus' career, from "Fables Of Faubus," an accusation against the Arkansas governor and his racist politics, to "Slop," to Duke Ellington's "Sound Of Love," a love message contained in Changes One. Three originals complete the list, "Just For Laughs," in two parts, "Caroline Keikki Mingus" and "Farewell, Farewell," which would appear on his last album Me, Myself And Eye, two months later.
