The Electric Prunes were an innovative American psychedelic rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. Known for their experimental sound, they blended garage rock energy with avant-garde production techniques. Their early hits, such as "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)", cemented their place in the 1960s psychedelic movement. Over time, they evolved into a project directed by producers, diverging from their original lineup and sound.

Mass in F Minor is the Electric Prunes' third album, released in 1968. It’s an ambitious concept work composed by David Axelrod, combining psychedelic rock with traditional liturgical music. The album features lyrics in Latin, drawn from the Catholic Mass, and is performed with heavy, fuzz-laden guitars, organ, and orchestral arrangements. Songs like "Kyrie Eleison" gained attention, even appearing in the film Easy Rider. While the complex arrangements exceeded the capabilities of the original band, requiring session musicians to complete much of the recording, the album is celebrated as a unique fusion of rock and classical music, a bold experiment in the psychedelic era.
