After more than a decade spent in the USA, most prominently as a member of the Velvet Underground, and producer of some of the most important proto-punk albums of all time (the Stooges, Nico, the Modern Lovers), Cale finally returned home to the UK to continue producing, this time with Island where he began producing Patti Smith, the Squeeze, and Sham 69, among others.
