The Creation were a brief yet influential English rock band of the 1960s, formed out of The Mark Four and celebrated for their loud, mod-tinged psychedelic “freakbeat.” Their standout singles—“Making Time” and “Painter Man”—were produced by Shel Talmy (of The Who and The Kinks fame). Guitarist Eddie Phillips notably used a violin bow on his guitar—predating Jimmy Page—giving the group a distinctive art-pop flair. Although they disbanded in 1968, their cult legacy persisted (even lending their name to Creation Records), and they’ve reunited on and off over the years.
