Originally released in 1973, Early One Morning is one of the most highly regarded and collectible albums of Irish psychedelic folk rock. Mushroom combined traditional Celtic melodies and instrumentation with progressive arrangements, heavy electric guitar, atmospheric keyboards and an unmistakably early-1970s underground sound.
The group’s unusual instrumental line-up included violin, electric mandolin, tin whistle, recorder, twelve-string guitar, organ, harpsichord, Moog synthesizer, bass and percussion. These elements move naturally between delicate acoustic passages, energetic traditional reels and powerful psychedelic rock, giving the album a character quite unlike that of most contemporary British or Irish folk-rock recordings.
