Originally released in August 1970 on Liberty Records, Hawkwind marked the arrival of one of the most original groups to emerge from the UK underground scene. Recorded during March and April of that year, the album introduced the band’s raw, exploratory sound, mixing psychedelic rock, blues influences, improvisation and the early foundations of the space-rock style that would later become their trademark.
Key tracks such as Hurry On Sundown, Mirror of Illusion, Be Yourself, Seeing It As You Really Are and Paranoia captured Hawkwind at the beginning of their journey, setting the tone for the groundbreaking music they would develop throughout the 1970s and beyond.
This newly remastered and expanded CD edition has been sourced from the original master tapes and adds six bonus tracks, including material from a 1969 demo session and both sides of the rare Hurry On Sundown mono single. Complete with an illustrated booklet and new essay, this edition offers a fine celebration of Hawkwind’s legendary debut album.
