THE ALLMAN BROTHERS (Gregg and Duane) originally commenced recording life as "Allman Joys" before forming THE HOUR GLASS, an all "Southern" rock, soul and psychedelic five piece who were to gain a following (and a record deal) when they stormed the California "Dance Concert" scene in 1967.THE HOUR GLASS released two albums on the Liberty label in 1967 and 1968 but recorded a number of other tracks that remained un-issued at the time and were recorded either at the album sessions or in 1969 at what proved to be their final (un-issued session) prior to mutating into THE ALLMAN BROTHERS later that year.The other HOUR GLASS members were to become cornerstones of the seventies southern rock scene as producers for THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND and many others.
