Jan Garbarek is a Norwegian saxophonist, born in 1947, widely regarded as one of the defining voices of European jazz. His sound is often described as clear, spacious, lyrical, and strongly shaped by both jazz improvisation and broader influences from classical and world music. He later became closely associated with ECM Records and helped define its signature sound.

Til Vigdis is Garbarek’s debut album, originally released in 1967 as Jan Garbarek Trio & Quartet. It captures him at a very early stage, with a much rawer, more energetic style than on his later ECM recordings. The album is built from live 1967 performances by two different lineups, and it is often seen as an important early document of Norwegian modern/free jazz.

Musically, expect intense, exploratory jazz, with strong Coltrane-era influence, long improvisations, and a young Garbarek already showing the individuality that would later make him famous.
