Originally released in 1971, UFO’s second album captures the British group during its early psychedelic and space-rock period. Before the arrival of Michael Schenker, the classic original line-up of Phil Mogg, Mick Bolton, Pete Way and Andy Parker created a raw, exploratory sound built around heavily treated guitar, powerful bass lines and extended instrumental improvisation.
The first side moves from the atmospheric “Silver Bird” into the eighteen-minute “Star Storm,” where slow vocal passages give way to long stretches of cosmic guitar effects and hypnotic rhythmic development. “Prince Kajuku” provides a shorter, more direct burst of hard rock before its companion piece opens the second side.
The album culminates in the twenty-six-minute title track, “Flying,” an expansive journey through quiet psychedelic sections, blues-based guitar passages and increasingly intense ensemble playing. This Repertoire Records edition was remastered by Jon Astley, half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
