Pazy from the Black Hippies started playing music in 1973 in Nigeria with his group FIRE FLIES at local clubs. Like most bands at that time, they played American and European pop hits mixed with jazz and highlife for expat audiences.
The Nigerian oil boom at the time, procided for a steady influx of foreigners, and gave rise to a Nigerian youth market. Pazy soon formed the Black Hippies, who found success playing the uniquely African style of hard rock.
This album was released in 1977, featuring whiplash funk drumming, searing fuzz guitar, raw vocals and that uniquely West African organ sound. Beautifully remastered with restored artwork, this release stands alongside Academy's Ofege and Psychedelic Aliens releases as one of the finest restored gems from a largely unknown, but incredibly vital rock scene in '70s West Africa.
