"Free Love", the only LP ever released by Kaleidon, is one of the many 'forgotten ones' from the Italian progressive rock era. The title "Free Love" takes its name from the eponymous band, 3/5 of which were North American musicians living in Italy. Free Love released two 45rpm's in 1970; the first one, "Sandy / Temple of Stone", highlights the remarkable ability of each individual component, if we also consider their young age. The second single contains the theme of the movie western "Roy Colt & Winchester Jack" directed by Mario Bava, with a music score written by Piero Umiliani.
In 1972, after many concerts and a line-up change, Free Love became Mia Martini's live band; thus launched towards a promising career, the band saw this dream ending after a car accident in which two of the four members tragically died.
Keyboardist Stefano Sabatini, one of the survivors, then founded Kaleidon, whose sole LP "Free Love" is in fact dedicated to his previous creature. It is a remarkable album of instrumental jazz-rock, six long tracks that span for forty minutes. This reissue is faithful to the 1973 original one, and is the best opportunity to discover another lost gem!
