RECORD COLLECTOR RARE VINYL SERIES presents
It is with great pleasure that we announce our first foray into authentic Medway Delta Blues! Backhouse James' Blues Band LP is our next RC Rare Vinyl Club production, the 14th in our series.
The Backhouse James Blues band formed in early 1968 with a line-up of Barry Bailey (guitar/vocals), Bob Mullet (bass/vocals), Spot Velovitch (piano) and John Taylor (drums) and began playing venues in their native Medway area. Within two months they had self-financed an album recorded in the front room of a house in Rainhamin Kent, and the back room of a local hotel! Musically this was authentic blues that dropped anchor in the ports of Elmore James, Muddy Waters and their own compositions and also featured Tim Harris on harmonica and vocals who often sat in with the band. Every track was a first take and sizzled like a hot steak. The band could only afford to press up 30 white label copies that were housed in an original sleeve and were all sold to their loyal followers for £2.50 each at a time when LPs cost £1.50.
Over time the album has become a collector’s item with a near mint copy selling for £1800 a few years ago.
