Back in 1975, a bunch of dudes from Boulder Creek ,California, found themselves in a recording studio and decidedto make a rural rock album of a sort of Dead-meets-Eaglesvariety. The result, Hellbound Highway, an obscure privatepressing made its appearance on Renegade Records (JAH-95014) the same year, but as only about 100 copies werepressed, very few have experienced the delights of this laidbackrecording.Some of the songs are terrific, particularly the opener andtitle track, with its psych-y lead guitar hook, a clever twist inthe chorus and a great melody, and the side-closers are bothoutstanding. In between, we're treated to some mellowcountry rock of the Outlaws variety, with some excellent steelguitar and some highly appropriate and surprisingly tunefulvocals, and the occasional fuzz guitar putting in a welcomeappearance.
