Bonnie Raitt’s Georgetown show from April 1973 unveiled a hugely impressive cast for blues fans boasting the appearance of Paul Butterfield’s Better Days and the original Rolling Stone himself; Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup. Accompanying the relative newcomer Raitt, is Lowell George whose own band Little Feat open the show. Another giant here is Freebo, the tall and talented Philly bass player who helps Raitt hold her own amongst such noble surroundings. Along with the success of her recently released second album Give It Up from 1972 shows just how a petite 23-year old redheaded, bottleneck steel guitar player can turn the music world on its head in a matter of months. Her artistic stature would be acutely recognised in the blues fraternity and be justly decorated in accolades with Grammy’s and numerous awards of achievement.
