CLEARLIGHT is a variable sized-international group that is centered around the French keyboards player Cyrille VERDEAUX. Although they sometimes are considered as a GONG-like formation, their music however remains very personal, especially based on splend piano parts. Moreover, CLEARLIGHT has become a true reference, renowned for its romantic and refined long instrumental developments, its bright mysticism ("Clearlight" is the word used to refer to the dazzling light that greets the dead in the beyond), as well as for its transitions mixing cosmic passages and violent or turbulent atmospheres. Note the contributions of David CROSS (KING CRIMSON), Tim BLAKE (GONG, HAWKWIND...), Didier LOCKWOOD (MAGMA, VOLKOR...), Didier MALHERBE (GONG), Christian BOULE, Jacky BOULADOUX, Ian BELLAMY... The first opus "Symphony" (1973) unquestionably remains CLEARLIGHT's masterpiece, and is without any doubt one of the cornerstones of the international Progressive rock scene. As a matter of interest, as this album was recorded, there was an unknown young British musician playing on strange tubular bells in the studio next door: Mike OLDFIELD himself ! CLEARLIGHT and the latter were the two references that contributed to build the reputation of the then very beginning Richard BRANSON's Virgin label. Then came "Forever Blowing Bubbles" (1975) and "Les Contes Du Singe Fou" ("Tales Of The Mad Monkey") (1976), whereas "Visions" (1978) denotes an orientation that's more biased towards India and oriental philosophies. Extremely evocative, the sleeves were designed by the famous Brazilian artist Sergio MACEDO. Later, Cyrille VERDEAUX decided to follow a more personal quest. "Symphony II" (1990) is a re-recorded version of the first album, in which the second side was performed on synthesizers only. A similar process was operated on "Les Contes Du Singe Fou", which became "Mosaïques - In Your Hands" (1995). Now living in California, Cyrille VERDEAUX founded his own label, which he soberly called Clearlight Music. And the real comeback finally happened in 2003, with the spectacular "Infinite Symphony". According to the band's tradition, this album is divided in six long instrumental, majestic and evocative movements. Beside the Master of Ceremonies, one can find Dan SHAPIRO on bass guitar, Shaun GUERIN on drums and other guest musicians such as Didier MALHERBE. As for the sleeve, it was signed by the inimitable Paul WHITEHEAD (GENESIS). Welcome to the CLEARLIGHT legend !"
