Troya were formed in Werne, in Germany’s Ruhr region, during the early 1970s. The group developed from an earlier school band called Drastic when classically trained keyboard player Peter Savelsberg joined guitarist Elmar Wegmann, bassist Wilhelm Weischer and drummer Klaus Pannewig.

The addition of organ, electric piano and Mellotron transformed the group’s sound, allowing Troya to combine melodic progressive rock with symphonic textures, psychedelic guitar and occasional folk-influenced passages. Although the musicians performed alongside groups such as Guru Guru, Wallenstein and Franz K, they remained essentially a regional concert band and played fewer than thirty shows.

“She” introduces the album with gentle keyboards, flute and melodic guitar before developing into a fuller symphonic arrangement. The extended “Battle Rock” alternates between forceful rock passages and slower, atmospheric sections, with Mellotron and electric guitar supplying much of its dramatic character.

“Chromatik” is a darker instrumental built around floating keyboards and spacious guitar, while “Festival” combines a memorable Mellotron theme with lyrical vocals and progressive development. “Sinclair” places greater emphasis on organ, electric piano and melodic guitar, and the closing “Choke” gradually builds from reflective passages into a heavier instrumental finale.

The six songs were recorded in only a few hours at Förderturm Studio in Dortmund. To keep expenses manageable, the musicians selected material from a larger concert repertoire and financed a pressing of just 200 LPs, which they sold directly after performances. This Garden of Delights edition restores Troya’s complete recorded output and includes extensive historical documentation.
